cPanel Servers Rant

Almost every day I’m fixing something on a cPanel server, no direct correlation towards the folks at cPanel themselves absolute terrific software, it’s the people that set out and say yes, I will buy this and use it for that, I will not read the manual, I will instead pay someone else to worry about it when “that” breaks.

First of all, the question should be asked: what do you hope to gain from this.

Renting a server running cPanel is simply not a “set and forget” type of handler; it does, much like almost anything else in this industry, have its complexities. Unless you are (or have) an experienced systems admin on hand to fine-tune it, stop it. Just stop.

The amount of work you create for people boggles the mind when something breaks, you whine and complain on forums, create support tickets clogging up helpdesks, submit bug requests bothering the authors with already documented issues.

If you don’t know what you’re doing, then stop doing it and learn first. Use a staging environment WELL away from anyone you could hurt and stop annoying the internet.

Sadly, people want information fast these days and expect to find everything readily available through the internet. I agree, that more people should read instructions before paying someone to fix something. It’s the cheaper and more gratifying option.

Indeed many people set out to get such software without being fully aware of what they’re getting into. If only people could spend more time learning first things would be much better.

Personally I have very little knowledge when it comes to such things. I can therefore understand why someone would want to outsource the duty of managing their cPanel.

Renting a server running cPanel sounds like a good proposition but only if one is familiar with cPanel. If that’s not the case it’s usually a recipe for disaster.

A lot of people want the benefits of cPanel without putting in the work to grasp how it works. The interesting bit is that it’s not even that complicated.

The graphical interface and automation tools that come with cPanel should make it relatively easy to use. It baffles me that a lot of people still find it a challenge.

Responsible practice means only getting such complex tools if you have a system admin to handle it. It’s irresponsible to get cPanel without having the requisite personnel to maintain it.

I don’t have enough idea about the cPanel. Thank you for sharing this. You’re absolutely right people need to learn first what they’re buying.

Being able to know something from someone would greatly benefit me. I am not aware of these things when using cPanel. I hope many people will be able to understand what cPanel really is.

Well, I have used cPanel before but because it was too complicated then I switched to other options. I might try to use cPanel again if I have more time to learn it.

I can see see your grievances with this issue. I’m sure it would save you a lot of time and energy if people just read the manuals before reaching out. People are less resourceful these days with the internet.

I simply can’t stand amateur administrators ruining everyone’s experience because of their incompetence. It can get horribly frustrating real fast.

“Unless you are (or have) an experienced systems admin on hand to fine-tune it, stop it. Just stop.” I couldn’t have put it much better myself. That’s very sound advice right there.

I am not very tech savvy so I guess I would fall under the category of the people using cPanel without much knowledge of it. Being ignorant sucks lol

People really are annoying like this. If you don’t know anything about what you are doing, really better to leave it to the experts who do. Saves everyone time and money wasted on trying to do what the usually clueless clients wants to do VS what really needs to be done by the more well versed systems administrator.
